The following charts on the performance of G10 currencies against the euro and
the yen reflect that the first half of 2007 was dominated by risk appetite and
carry trades. In the second half of the year, the financial market crisis triggered a
rise in risk aversion and a sharp unwinding of carry trades. Over the entire year
2007, the US dollar has lost 8% against the euro, 6.5% against the GBP and
3.2% against the yen.
